The Man

The aquarius and agoraphobic man
who is alfresco
abhors aldente spaghetti.
Adjourns the altercations of animals
and admires amaranth in the apocalypse light.

Pig

Communist pig who,
shouts "two legs bad,
four legs good."
Controls the farm
Rewrites history.
Takes advantage.
Is over bearing.
Decrees "two legs good,
four legs bad."
The sheep WILL follow.

Jingle Bells Rewrite

Get away, get away
that is what she said
Go somewhere you want to be
You've limited yourself today
get away, get away
That is what she said
go somewhere you want to be
you've limited yourself today.

Rewritten Lyrics

V1. I’ve got to talk about something new
Its all about what your are gonna do
You let yourself glide along, knowing that
You don’t have to try to wear that hat.

C. I care what you do
Will you just give up? No
Think about this decision awhile
Your folks didn’t make it.
Not for you, not this time.
Make up your mind
For your happiness.

V2. She told me I didn’t try hard enough
I always knew where I would end up
I wouldn’t have to try hard for that
She always knows what is best for me

V3. She wants to talk about something new
Its all about what I am gonna do
All she wants is me to be happiest
I know she cares about me all the time.

Secret Life

Lovers embrace in
the picture window.
a car called vengeance.
the hanging chair weaved,
basket like.
down a stairway,
hides the door.
Paint tries to escape the wall.
Cherry blossoms open up,
like two good friends after,
a long absence.

An Ode to the SAT Test Writers

Turcotte, J. "desk and pencil." photo. Fhs Poetry 2009. 14/4/09. http://www.fhspoetry2009.blogspot.com/

Test writers
you who weren't loved as children,
make high school students quiver in fear.
The equivalent of planting bamboo chutes
under their nails
and dipping the fresh wounds in Lemon juice.
You mock them
five tiny bubbles to fill in.
One right answer.
Some of us just doodle patterns on the leaves.
Others still try their hardest
on questions designed for them to fail
by you, not loved as children.

Dreams of Gelato Breakfast

Dreams of Gelato Breakfast

In the briskness of morning,
the sun shines
over a cramped square
in Firenze Italia.
The beginning of day,
Sustenance spelled gelato.
the treat, too beautiful to consume
raspberry and pistachio
chocolate and hazelnut colored mounds,
stacked precariously
one on top of another
Threatening to slide away.
wind bullying those mounds.
As we
devour the scoops of crystallized dreams
melting around the cone.
Jealous crowds begin to gather
to buy their own
breakfast of dreams.

Stephansdom

Light dances through stained glass
like brightly colored gypsies on a string.
A mixture of dust and incense.
Decay spreads through the edifice.
Ironically here Mythology meets Jesus.

They shake hands briefly and step away.

Soft and
Soulful a requiem rises.
Ancient, Gothic thick with mourning
reverberating off stone walls.
Row after row of pews sitting

held aloft on cobble stone floors.

Geometric patterns: triangles, squares

worn down, almost to nothing.

For
centuries priests have stood
glinting gold trays of communion wafers
in hand.
Waiting to place one Crisp circle

on my tongue.

I died for Beauty-- but was scarce

I died for Beauty--but was scarce
Adjusted in the Tomb
When One who died for Truth, was lain
In and adjoining Room--

He questioned softly "Why i failed?"
"For Beauty", I replied--
"And I--for Truth--Themself are One--
WE Brethren, are", He said-

And so, as Kinsmen, met a Night--
We talked between the Rooms-
Until the Moss had reached our lips--
And covered up--our names--

Memorial Day

No school
the cool wind rushes through my opened window
pleasantly whipping my face
as i rush to the boutique.
75% off!
Women walking with bulging brown bags,
overflowing from shoes, skirts, scarves.
Chaos ensues, bodies everywhere.
Arms flying, hands grabbing,
the clip of high heels on the linoleum floor.
pssssh, immersion in a cloud of lilac and roses.
Over stocked shelves and displays
vacant by noon.

So Much Depends Upon

So much depends
upon

Cups filled full
with hope

Sharing love
laughing

Closest people
family.

Two Tone

I am Blue
Calm like the ocean-
Deep, Dark, pulsing in waters Rhythm.
Regular Denim jeans worn thin.
and cold blueberries washed clean by rain drops.
the Pensive dolphin slipping through smooth silk-
the lighthouse guides me from the shore
But...
I am Green
the rolling acres of tart grapes-
waiting to be crushed into wine,
the Sweet taste of pistachio ice cream-
and apples picked fresh at the farm
Old spotted and speckled turtle-
Bathing in the sunshine
I am turquoise.
